Tilesets

Postby Tyndrel » Sat Mar 06, 2010 5:06 pm

Hi folks,

just a couple of tileset suggestions...

GHI Aethyr Tileset by Timdalos

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=ha ... il&id=7386

Absolutely stunning set for those places in between worlds/planes etc.

and...

Midgard Rural by Big Bene

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=ha ... il&id=6112

This actually looks like a real rural landscape with an assortment of crops, perhaps these could be added to the CEP expanded rural set. At the end of his Readme he specifically says “Feel free, however, to use it, copy it, change it, distribute it etc. in any way you want”.

Thanks for everything,

Tyndrel.

I agree that the Midgard Hak would add nicely to CEP's additions to the Rural Tileset and hope they consider it.

As for the Aethyr Hak though, it's a full finished hak and can already be added to any Module now. It doesn't add to the core tilesets and was never a part of the CODI sets so it would not seem to meet the CEP's previous stated intent or criteria. Since a "hak" is a "hak" I really don't see why they'd duplicate it for addition to the CEP. I know, many players and builders view the CEP and even Project Q as add-ons and not true haks. So more folk are willing it seems to download and install them.

Myself, I look at the CEP as a mere base for my creations. Thanks to them I was able to remove Ashtefere's Gothic Hak from my own module and will soon have my JPX Mountains Hak removed as well. This was due to the "gothic" tiles being part of the CODI Tilesets that the CEP Team inherited though. The CEP City Exterior has given me the Gothic as well as other city options and the raised terrain for the CEP Rural/Rural Winter has allowed me to build some very nice hilly and mountanous terrain that actually now look better than my old mountain hak versions. (And the pathfinding is also much improved) The skyboxes are also a big part of the environment now, especially in those areas. (Raised terrain is great, raised terrain with a skybox showing hills or peaks in the distance is simply outstanding though)

While the CEP expands the game like never before in a single package for most builders and players, I'll likely always use other haks in my PW. Maxam, Diademous and Six Thrice all have created outstanding tilesets over the years that I use or plan to use soon. The Aethyr Hak mentioned is also on my list of possibilities for a future expansion. But as I said, these are all already stand alone sets and I would never expect to see them in the CEP or even ask that they were.

I previously requested Lord of Worm's awesome tilesets in an OLD post on NWvault...but I would also like to humbly request Oriental Rural as well.

I would be the happiest mad dog in the whole NWN world if these made it into CEP. Seriously...seriously happy! :D

PS - Yeah Aethyr looks awesome!

I'm with maddog regarding the oriental tileset, though I think the best way (IMHO) would be to integrate the oriental tiles in the CEP Rural and CEP Rural Winter (maybe with some nice snow texture layer on the roofs) sets, as well as integrating Oriental Interior tiles into the CEP City Interior 1 tileset. And if the CEP team would be willing to go the extra mile to ascend to pure perfection (*wink, wink, notch, notch* ), then putting some of the Oriental Rural tiles into the Desert, City and Cave tilesets would be just awesome.

Frankly...I don't care when or how...I would just be happy to have them. :)

Also...If I wanted to pitch in and help move this forward, what tools (IE: Clean Models) would I need to download, learn and use to help out?

* Update *

I have since learned that the Oriental Rural tiles are an extension of the existing rural tiles.

I have also learned that the CEP tiles can be installed as either add-on tiles that show up seperately in the palette, or as extensions of the existing tiles like Oriantal Rural.

So I am wondering if this affects how difficult it would be to include these tiles in the CEP.

The Oriental tileset in the C.R.A.P. was not an extension but a stand alone set. Since Acaos is doing tilesets i cannot speak for him other than to state his policy thus far, which is to integrate multiple sets into one. This, will probably mean that the Oriental set will be merged/added to the CEP Rural set, that is my guess.
